Process Notes: Subtractive Start
These 3 works began by scraping a 2:2:1 mix of Indian Yellow, Marble White, and Venetian Medium across the canvas. Large darks of Dioxsazine Purple were then laid in and swept back, reducing contrast and closing light so it could later be re-opened through etching and lifting.
Through these cycles, the warm backlight of the gesso glowed through the transparent layers. A final light scumble of Flake White wove figure into ground, creating a play of warm vs. cool — atmosphere gathering in the edges.
